A Day in Spokane's Riverfront Park: Falls, Gondola & Downtown

The Heart of Downtown Spokane

Riverfront Park is the 100-acre green centerpiece of downtown Spokane, built around the thundering Spokane Falls. Originally the site of Expo '74, it's now a beautifully redeveloped park that's perfect for a full day of easy exploring — no long drive required.

Morning: The Falls & the Gondola

Start at the SkyRide — a glass-enclosed gondola that glides right over the roaring Spokane Falls. In spring, when snowmelt is at its peak, the falls are genuinely spectacular and the ride is unforgettable.

Afterward, walk the pedestrian bridges for more views, and let the kids ride the historic 1909 Looff Carrousel, a hand-carved National Historic Landmark.

Afternoon: Stroll, Eat & Shop

Wander the paved loop trails, visit the iconic Radio Flyer Red Wagon slide, and cross into downtown for lunch. Sherman-style eateries, breweries, and the River Park Square shopping center are all steps away.

Grab a coffee and relax on the lawn, or rent a bike and ride a stretch of the Centennial Trail, which runs right through the park along the river.

Evening: Lights on the Water

As the sun sets, the falls and downtown light up beautifully. Time your visit for a riverside dinner and an evening stroll across the pavilion, which glows with color after dark.

Why a Car Helps

While Riverfront Park itself is walkable, having a rental car lets you easily combine it with nearby stops — the Manito Park gardens, Kendall Yards dining district, or a quick trip out to the wine country. Park downtown, explore on foot, then drive on to your next adventure.

A comfortable crossover or SUV from High River Rentals makes getting around Spokane effortless.
